If I could rewrite any book’s ending, I’d rewrite all of them, every single one, and hand out happy endings like candy on Halloween. No exceptions, no fine print, no sad violin music playing us out. Every tragic hero gets a plot twist where the villain trips over their own cape and everyone just laughs it off and goes home for pie.
Romeo and Juliet? They elope, open a little bakery in Verona, and spend their days arguing lovingly over whether the cannoli needs more sugar. Old Yeller doesn’t just survive, he learns to swim like an Olympic champion and lives to a ripe old age terrorizing squirrels in the backyard. Even the saddest classics get a rewrite where somebody bursts through the door at the last second yelling “wait, I brought snacks.”
Call it revisionist. Call it delightfully unrealistic. I call it Monday, and honestly, the shelf could use a lot more Mondays like that
