Backyard summer dinner with potato salad, green beans with bacon, and grilled chicken on a red checkered tablecloth.

What’s Your Favorite Thing to Cook?

Now, everyone who knows me really knows about my cooking skills.
I mean… you are allowing me to cook. 😂

Let’s just say it’s been an adventure.

There were the mustard greens that got caught in the garbage disposal.
The fudge that absolutely refused to harden.
And y’all… you haven’t even heard about my cakes.

Okay, I’ll tell you a little about my cakes.

First rule: don’t ask me to make a special cake. That’s all I can say about special cakes. I can make a normal cake. But when it comes to my kids, normal tends to go out the window.

For my sons’ birthdays, the birthday person is allowed to have whatever they want. If they wanted pasta hanging from the ceiling and dropping into plates… well, we’ve never gone that far, but you get the idea.

If they want a chocolate cake with butterscotch pudding for the icing, I’ll do it. I actually did that one. I had to put toothpicks through the cake just to keep it from collapsing. The kids still joke that my cakes are delicious, but they want to flow away like the mighty Mississippi during a flood.

You get the picture.

So what’s my favorite thing to cook?

Honestly? Potato salad and green beans with onions and bacon.

Everyone asks for those. Every time. I add a little bacon to my potato salad so it has some crunch, and the green beans… well, onions and bacon make just about everything better.

So if you’re looking for something good to eat this summer, come on over and have dinner with us. My husband will be grilling chicken, sausage, or whatever’s on his mind, and I’ll be making potato salad and green beans — while music plays, laughter fills the yard, and memories get made.

Now tell me…
what’s your favorite thing to cook?
