🛬 A Journey Through the Midwest
The last few days my husband and I have been traveling. We started on Thursday, landing in Indianapolis and leaving from Chicago and visited Milwaukee during that time. We thoroughly enjoyed the trip—the architecture, the people, and the cultural experience.
We walked the Gold Coast and Lincoln Park, visited the Indianapolis Speedway, saw Lake Michigan three times (we have pictures to prove it from each spot), toured the historic Pabst Brewery, went to mass at the Basilica of St. Josaphat and went to an Irish Festival. Each stop held its own kind of charm.
🏙️ Cities with Quiet Power
There’s something about Midwest cities that surprises you with their quiet charm and bold character. The blend of grit and grace in places like Chicago can stir up old dreams in the best way. They bring back memories and dreams we had in times past and speak to us of people who walked the streets and plowed the fields.
🎓 Dreams That Linger
I reminisced about my college days when I had told my oldest that when I graduated from college, we would live in cities like Chicago, New York, and Miami. We were going to travel the world and see all that it possesses.
“Isn’t it wild how those early dreams feel so vivid, even decades later?”
They don’t fade—they evolve. And sometimes they whisper back to us when we least expect it.
🌿 Rooted in Gratitude
Fast forward to today. Life has a way of changing our paths. I in no way have attained all the things I had dreamed of, and honestly, as much as I would have loved to have done everything I had wanted, I enjoy what I have now.

Not just settling—but truly savoring.
There’s a kind of joy that only comes from choosing gratitude over comparison or trying to be or have so much more. It is in those moments we find peace.
💬 What Would It Take?
Anyway, we discussed what it would take for us to live in those places now. I own everything I want. Yes, there are times when I want more, but don’t we all? I am satisfied with what God has given me and thankful for it all.
“That satisfaction—that rootedness—is a kind of wealth no city skyline can offer no matter what.”
It’s the kind of love that grows from knowing your blessings by name.
If I were offered a job where I could live my past dreams, what would it take for me to accept it? I decided: less traffic (25 minutes in standstill traffic is a bit much), and nothing I have now could disappear. All expenses would need to be paid by the employer. I don’t want anything out of my pocket. Oh yeah, my salary would need to be oh so much more.
“Because dreams are no longer just about adventure—they’re about stewardship.”
About protecting what’s already blooming in your life. It is not chasing what’s next, but honoring what’s already here.
🌸 Where Love Finds Us
We don’t always bloom where we planned to. Sometimes, life reroutes us—gently or abruptly—into places we never imagined calling home. And yet, in those unexpected corners, something truly beautiful unfolds.
Love shows up in the neighbor who waves every morning. In the cashier who remembers your name. In the quiet strength of a community that holds space for joy, grief, and everything in between.
