When I was in college, I can remember running across a psychology test that explained a lot about a person. The person had to choose their three favorite animals and rank them in order of which was their favorite, along with the reasons they chose them. This simple exercise was fascinating, as it revealed deeper insights into the individual’s personality. This always had us evaluating ourselves in connection with each animal. Then, after ranking the animals, the answers were revealed as to what they meant turning a casual activity into a journey of self-discovery.
Here are the questions:
First Animal: How you perceive yourself.
Second Animal: How others perceive you.
Third Animal: Who you really are or aspire to be.
So just for fun and show you how it went:
- mouse – because it is quiet and scampers all about
- turtle – because it is round and knows how to duck its head in.
- roach – because it seems to manage to get in the most interesting places and doesn’t know how to die unless you step on it.
So then, by these answers I would say I think of myself as quiet and capable of moving about easily. Next, others see me as being fat and that I am “pushing” my head into my body. Finally, I am really a roach. Yuck! But, according to these choices, I know how to get in the most interesting places and I will never die unless you step on me.
So now you see how it works. Give it a try. These are not my favorites in the least. I don’t know of a single person who is crazy about mice or roaches. Yuck! Yuck! And please don’t ever try to step on me if you see me. That would hurt!
