“Gazing Upon God’s Face: Embracing His Divine Presence”

Have you ever contemplated the face of God? What does it look like? Is it a reflection of divine love and compassion, or does it evoke a sense of awe and reverence? What can we learn by looking at our Lord’s face? By gazing upon our Lord’s face, we gain insight into who we are through Him. We experience the depth of His understanding, His mercy, forgiveness, and grace. What does it mean to see the face of God? To be in His presence is to be transformed into His image and to develop a more intimate connection with Him. He calls us to have an intimate relationship with Him.

There have been very few who have looked upon God the Father’s face. Moses and Jacob are prominent figures in this rare group, both of whom experienced profound encounters that transformed them. Moses, having conversed with the Lord, returned from Mount Sinai with his face radiant and reflecting divine glory, which left the Israelites in awe and fear. Similarly, Jacob, after wrestling with an angel, emerged with a new identity and was renamed Israel, signifying his struggle and ultimate reconciliation with God. Both of these encounters underscore the majestic and overwhelming nature of God’s presence, illustrating how facing Our Lord can lead to dramatic and life-changing experiences.

To see God’s face, one must be in His presence. How else could you behold His divine countenance? I heard there are at least three levels of being in His presence which are listed below.

  • General Presence – such as in Psalm 139
  • Indwelling Presence – such as in John 14: 16-18
  • Intimate Presence – such as in Isaiah – walking in close relationship

We are most interested in the intimate presence. That is to gaze on His face. I have heard that to gaze upon His face is all-encompassing love, full of mercy and grace! But to gaze on His face means to recognize Him in our lives. It is to see what He does for us in spite of the pain He feels for our sins. It is to spend time with Him intimately because when you gaze into a face you have to be close enough to see it – to notice every wrinkle and every dimple and crevice of His skin. When we gaze on His face we are capable of seeing every emotion through His eyes.

To gaze upon the one you love, words are not needed because you instinctively understand and know everything. Because words are no longer necessary. It means that there is an intimate love that connects both together. It means you are there for them and you care enough to spend time with them. That you want to spend as much time as possible with them. That it is not a labor. It is an act of love.

Understanding the profound intimacy and transformation that comes from being in God’s presence can inspire us to move closer to Him. Here are some ways to draw nearer to our Lord:

  1. Daily Prayer and Reflection: Spend time in quiet prayer and meditation, seeking to feel God’s presence and to communicate your thoughts and feelings with Him. Consider on His words and listen for His guidance.
  2. Study the Scriptures: Regularly read and study the Bible to understand God’s teachings and His plan for your life. The scriptures offer a direct connection to God’s wisdom and love.
  3. Worship and Praise: Engage in worship, both privately and within your faith community. Singing praises and expressing gratitude helps to deepen your relationship with God.
  4. Practice Gratitude: Recognize and give thanks for the blessings in your life, big and small. Cultivating gratitude opens your heart to God’s love and presence.
  5. Serve Others: Follow Jesus’ example by serving others. Acts of kindness and charity show God’s love and help you grow closer to Him.
  6. Join a Faith Community: Engage in church activities, Bible study groups, and other community gatherings where you can share your faith journey with others.
  7. Seek Forgiveness and Offer It: Embrace God’s mercy and forgiveness for your sins, and extend that same grace to others. This practice fosters spiritual growth and healing.
  8. Develop a Personal Relationship with God: Spend time with God, sharing your life, hopes, and struggles. Building this intimate relationship means being honest, vulnerable, and open to His presence in every aspect of your life.

By incorporating these practices into your daily life, you can move closer to God, experiencing His love, mercy, and grace in deeper and more meaningful ways. This journey is about cultivating an ongoing, intimate connection with our Lord, allowing His presence to transform and guide you.

Embracing the intimate presence of God is a transformative journey filled with profound love, mercy, and grace. By seeking His face and spending time in His presence, we open our hearts to a deeper, more fulfilling relationship with Him. Just as Moses and Jacob were forever changed by their encounters with God, we too can experience the life-changing power of this divine connection. Let us strive to see God’s face in our daily lives, recognizing His endless blessings and allowing His love to guide us through every challenge. As we grow closer to Him, we are not only enriched by His presence but also become a reflection of His boundless compassion and grace to those around us. May we always cherish our special relationship and continue to seek His divine presence with all our hearts. 📖✨
