Beware the hour after breakfast! That’s when the little dragons wake up. They are FULL of zoomies and sneezes of rainbow sparkles. They have the unstoppable urge to turn their cozy lair into the wildest treasure hoard the world has ever seen.
“Never challenge a dragon before breakfast.”
Out burst Zippley, the strawberry-red scaled daredevil, leaping from one massive stone to another like a living pogo stick. Her playmates tumbled right behind her—Bouncousem (the bounciest yellow fluffball), Yeagone (the glitter-hoarding teaser), and Indiemerald (the deep-green whirl of giggles). Their tiny roars of delight echoed like squeaky thunder, shaking the walls and waking the biggest dragon of all.
Thump… thump… THUMP! In swayed Mama Dragon, her grand steps rumbling the ground, her eyes wide as she took in the glorious mess. Pillows had become mountains. Blankets turned into rivers of color. Every shiny thing in the lair—spoons, buttons, lost marbles—was now part of the grandest hoard ever built!
“If you find glitter in the air, a dragon has just laughed nearby.”
Various puffs of fire whooshed from Mama’s surprised snout (mostly harmless warm breezes), sending Zippley and her crew soaring in delighted loops to the nearest corner. They huddled together, tails twitching, eyes sparkling with mischief and just a tiny bit of “uh-oh.”
“A family of dragons is the safest treasure of all.”
Mama blinked at the transformed space—it looked like a dream world had exploded inside their home. But instead of a roar of scolding, a slow, warm smile spread across her face. “Oh my wild little flames,” she rumbled softly. “Today will not be like any other day… and that’s exactly how it should be.”
A sunbeam danced through the lair, catching one single sparkly scale on the tiniest dragon. It twinkled like a promise. Mama whirled slowly, taking in the beautiful chaos, and thought to herself of all the adventures waiting just beyond the cave mouth.
Suddenly, Bouncousem scampered forward, wrapped his little claws around her leg, and looked way, way up into her eyes. “Can we go out and soar the skies?” he asked, voice full of hopeful squeaks.
Mama looked down at her brave, bouncy brood and nodded with a gentle rumble. “Yes, my treasures. Let’s fly.”

Just then—ACHOO! Yeagone sneezed the biggest, glitteriest sneeze yet! A swirling cloud of purple sparkles burst from his nose, dancing in the air like tiny shooting stars.
Oh no! Is he getting sick? (You see, unlike humans, when a dragon sneezes, the color of the glitter tells the tale: Green means a little sore on their foot. Yellow means a fever is brewing. Brown means a cold is coming. But purple? Purple means one thing only: It’s time to FLY!) Every color of the rainbow tells a story.
The little dragons cheered, wings fluttering in excitement. Mama spread her great wings wide. Together they tumbled out into the bright morning. Zippley led the charge. Bouncousem bounced mid-air. Indiemerald twirled loops. Yeagone trailed purple glitter like a comet tail.
The skies were theirs today, full of zoomies, giggles, and endless adventure.
“Some days are made for flying. Some are made for resting in the nest. Both are part of being brave.”
And somewhere below, the lair stayed messy, sparkly, and perfectly loved—because that’s what happens when little dragons (and the big one who loves them) decide to make every day a little more magical.
Happy Appreciate a Dragon Day! 🐉
“It is nearly impossible to fly with logic.”
