If you’re like me and want to save a little extra money on your energy bill without spending a lot upfront, here are a few simple changes I’ve started making that have really helped:
- Unplug Electronics: I’ve gotten into the habit of unplugging electronics like phone chargers, TVs, and kitchen appliances when they’re not in use. It only takes a second, and I’ve noticed a difference in my energy bill!
- Use Natural Light: I try to take full advantage of the daylight—whether it’s opening up the blinds in the morning or sitting near a window. It’s amazing how much light you can get during the day without having to flip on any lights!
- Adjust the Thermostat: Instead of cranking up the heat or AC, I set my thermostat a couple degrees lower in the winter and higher in the summer. It’s such a small change, but it really helps reduce my energy use.
- Seal Drafts: I went around my home and checked for drafts around windows and doors. I sealed up any gaps, and even a rolled-up towel does the trick. It keeps my home warmer in the winter without running the heat as much.
- Switch to LED Bulbs: I swapped out old light bulbs for LEDs. They use way less energy, last longer, and honestly, I haven’t had to change a bulb in months!
By making these simple changes, I’ve seen my energy costs go down—and I didn’t have to spend much to do it. It’s easy to make a difference and keep my home both comfortable and affordable!
