Deepening Your Relationship with Christ Through the Eucharist

I once heard that if we truly believe that the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ is really Him, then we would want to receive Him as frequently as we can, recognizing the profound significance of this sacrament in our lives. This was said by someone who did not believe in the real presence of our Lord. The Eucharist serves as one of the vital connections to our faith, reminding us of His ultimate sacrifice and the love He has for each of us.

This has a profound effect on me because I ask myself what I truly believe, leading me to think deeply about my faith. I am constantly asking myself to what lengths I will go for my Lord. Will I die for Him as He and the martyrs have done? Will I take care of my fellow man even if they are odorous or unkempt and/or spiteful? How much do I truly love Him? What do I truly believe, even when it isn’t convenient or politically or socially correct? Do I reflect Him through my life? These questions challenge me to consider my commitment and to examine my actions and their sincerity, pushing me for a desire to have a deeper understanding of His love for me and compelling me to work toward standing firm within my life in His love, regardless of my own human desires, and to exhibit by words and actions my love for others because of Him.

Frequently, I say people hear but don’t listen. And for me, I go one step more: I hear and listen, but I do not comprehend completely. It is a further depth of communication. I am sure I will never comprehend the depth of His love for me. It is a process.

Therefore, I look at the body and blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ, desiring an even deeper relationship and knowing how faulty I am. Although I believe His words, I do not fully comprehend them to their fullest depth. There are saints who survived on nothing but His body. There are those who had stigmata. I hope to grow to deeper love one day that sees Him completely, not as limited as I am.
