Beach or Mountains?

A Journey Through the World’s Most Beloved Places and Why They Speak to the Soul

Every once in a while, someone asks a simple question that carries a deeper invitation:

“Would you rather go to the beach or the mountains?”

It sounds lighthearted… but the truth is, our answer often reveals what our heart is longing for.

Some places steady us.
Some places soften us.
Some places feel like God gently reaching toward us saying,
“Come rest here awhile.”

Today, I want to take you on a quiet journey across a few beloved beaches and mountains around the world, places people return to year after year, not just because they’re beautiful, but because they stir something inside the soul.

Wherever you live in Europe, Africa, Asia, the Americas, Australia, perhaps one of these places will call to you in that soft, holy way that whispers, “You’re safe here.”

If Your Heart Needs Release: The Beaches

Grace Bay, Turks & Caicos

This isn’t simply turquoise water. It’s shades of blue that look painted by God’s own hand. The sand is warm and white, fine as powdered sugar.
People go here because the water is calm enough to let your shoulders drop…
your breath deepen…
your worries drift a little farther away.
It’s a place where peace arrives effortlessly.

Bondi Beach, Australia

At sunrise, surfers paddle out with silhouettes against the gold and peach sky. Waves sparkle. The air feels alive.
This beach is for the heart that needs joy.
Movement.
Energy.
A reminder that play is holy, and laughter is still allowed.
God made joy too and Bondi is full of it.

The Amalfi Coast, Italy

Cliffside towns spill color down to the sea. Lemon trees scent the air. Church bells echo between stone walls.
Visitors say it feels like walking inside a prayer of gratitude,
beauty, community, shared meals, sunlight, tradition.
It’s a place that reminds you of life’s fullness, where God’s goodness shows up in color and culture.

Anse Source d’Argent, Seychelles

Pink sand. Smooth granite boulders shaped like sculpture. Clear, shallow water that barely ripples.
People come here because it feels untouched…
quiet…
like the first pages of Genesis.
It’s a refuge for anyone who needs stillness to hear God again.

Cannon Beach, Oregon, USA

Fog rolling in. A moody sky. Haystack Rock standing like a cathedral rising from the sea.
This is where many people go to think, to pray, to walk slowly with the sound of the waves.
It’s a place that whispers,
“Be still and know that I am God.”

If Your Heart Needs Strength: The Mountains

The Alps — France • Italy • Switzerland

Snow-capped peaks catching the pinks of dawn.
Villages with wooden balconies and flower boxes overflowing.
Church bells drifting across valleys.
Visitors say being here feels like stepping into Psalm 121:
“I lift my eyes to the mountains. Where does my help come from?”
It’s a place that reminds you: help is near.

The Rockies — USA • Canada

Bold forests. Turquoise lakes fed by glaciers. Elk wandering across open meadows.
People come here when they need courage or clarity,
when they need to feel small in the best way.
The Rockies breathe resilience into tired souls.

The Dolomites — Italy

Rosy light at sunset makes the peaks glow in soft pink.
Quiet trails wind through wildflower fields.
It’s gentle, peaceful, and deeply reflective.
A place where each step feels like prayer.

The Himalayas — Nepal • India

Clouds float beneath the peaks. Winds carry the scent of snow and pine.
People come here when they’re seeking something deeper,
renewal, direction, or even a sense of awe.
The Himalayas make the soul look upward.

Mount Fuji Region — Japan

A mountain so symmetrical it feels painted.
Cherry blossoms drift across lakes. Mornings rise in soft mist.
People visit when they need calm, renewal, or a quiet new beginning.

So… Beach or Mountains?

What Does Your Soul Need Today?

You don’t have to choose a favorite for life.
Just for now.

If your heart feels tangled → the beach might untie it.
If your heart feels weary → the mountains might hold it.
If your heart feels scattered → either place might help it gather again.

God meets us in different landscapes.
Sometimes in waves.
Sometimes in peaks.
Always in beauty.

Tell me in the comments:
Which place speaks to you today and why?

I love hearing your stories.
You are wonderfully made…
and this world is full of places created to remind you of that truth.

    1. Thank you. So are you beach or mountain? To be truthful I am more of a mountain except in the winter. Then give me the beach.

      1. Mountain person 🙂

  2. for this moment…the mountains call … its sturdy to steady steps …

Its beautiful…how you took us through this … thank you…🤍🙏

    1. Thank you. I would like the mountains in the winter if it wasn’t for that sloppy slide-y stuff that hits the ground. 😂

      1. 🤭😂… okay…now i have to rethink… 😋lol…

      2. LOL It was that slippery stuff right? I like the white stuff. I just don’t want to fall. He! He! covering my mouth like the dog in the Snidely Whiplash cartoon.

      3. definitely the slippery lol… I’ll be breaking my back …with that slip – slide – slip – falls 😂

      4. Me too. I love the mountains but when there is ice or snow give me the flat land in the south. My co workers in PA tell me they will teach me how to drive in it. They said they will all call in sick so we can practice. Cough! Cough! Boss I’m feeling bad. 🤣
