People use different means of meditating and praying, each reflecting their unique beliefs and practices. No two people are alike, and this diversity enriches our lives and spirituality. In an earlier post, I mentioned the Orthodox Christians, Catholics, and Muslims and their forms of prayer, which vary significantly in style. The traditional rosary, also, called the Dominican Rosary, can be rote, recited during which you focus on each decade so that you are brought closer to the Holy Family (God, the Father, Jesus, Holy Spirit, Mary & Joseph). Each bead on the rosary serves as a reminder of the mysteries of faith, inviting each of us to delve more deeply. It is centers on the life, death, resurrection, and events of Jesus Christ.
It consists of these parts:
- Sign of the Cross
- The Apostle’s Creed
- Our Father/Lord’s Prayer
- Hail Mary
- Glory Be
- Fatima Prayer
- Hail Holy Queen
Many times other prayers are included. Many of which can be found on this page. Different days of the week has a different set of mysteries which are the focused like
- Joyful Mysteries recited Monday and Saturday
- Sorrowful Mysteries recited Tuesday and Friday
- Glorious Mysteries recited Sunday and Wednesday
- Luminous Mysteries recited on Thursday
John Paul II added the Luminous Mysteries during his tenure as Pope. Many choose today not to say it but prefer to say the older form. In the older form, the Joyful Mysteries are said on Monday and Thursday; the Sorrowful Mysteries are said on Tuesday and Friday; and finally, the Glorious Mysteries are said on Sunday, Saturday, and Wednesday.
There are five decades for each of the mysteries. To start and end the rosary, you will make the sign of the cross. Then you will say the Lord’s Prayer followed by three Hail Marys to be said for faith, hope, and love. Next, a Glory Be and Fatima Prayer are said. Now we are ready to start each decade. Each of them begins with the Lord’s Prayer, followed by ten Hail Marys, then a Glory Be. The Fatima Prayer is said after every Glory Be by many. After the five decades are finished, Hail Holy Queen is recited, as well as several other prayers that you wish to add.
