On September 18, we celebrate the United States Air Force Birthday, a momentous occasion honoring the dedication, bravery, and excellence of the men and women who serve in our nation’s aerial defense. Established as an independent branch in 1947, the Air Force has played a pivotal role in safeguarding freedom and upholding peace across the globe. Today, we recognize the innovative spirit and relentless commitment of our Air Force personnel, whose contributions continue to inspire and protect our country. Happy Birthday, Air Force!

Joining the Air Force involves several key steps:

  1. Research: Begin by learning about the different roles and opportunities available in the Air Force, including active duty, reserve, and Air National Guard options.
  2. Meet Eligibility Requirements: You must be a U.S. citizen or a legal resident, at least 17 years old (with parental consent), and meet medical and physical standards. Generally, you should have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  3. Contact a Recruiter: Reach out to an Air Force recruiter who can provide detailed information about the enlistment process, career paths, and answer any questions you may have.
  4. Take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB): This test assesses your skills and helps determine your eligibility for various Air Force roles.
  5. Complete the Application Process: Fill out required forms and attend an interview with the recruiter to discuss your goals and options.
  6. Medical Examination:Undergo a medical examination at a Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) to ensure you meet the health standards required for service.
  7. Select a Job: Based on your ASVAB scores, medical results, and preferences, you’ll work with your recruiter to choose your Air Force job (AFSC).
  8. Swear In: Once you have selected a job and completed all previous steps, you will take the Oath of Enlistment, officially becoming a member of the Air Force.
  9. Basic Training: After enlisting, you will attend Basic Military Training (BMT) at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas, where you will learn essential military skills and discipline.
  10. Technical Training: Upon completing BMT, you will advance to Technical Training School for specialized instruction in your designated job.
