Purpose of the Meeting
To decide whether we should ask Earth to place a mountain within everyone’s sight, so people everywhere can begin the day looking at something steady, strong, and slightly impressive before checking their phones.
Location
Old Root Hall, Conference Room B, under the big oak that leaks sunlight and occasionally squirrels
Chair
The Owl (absent, left the gavel and a note that said: “Please try not to approve anything impossible.”)
Attendees
- Rabbit – Acting chair, obsessed with schedules and productivity
- Worm – Guardian of soil health and long-term stability
- Deer – Advocate for families, children, and quiet courage
- Flower – Representative of beauty, morale, and stopping to notice things
- Road – Responsible for transportation, safety, and snack-related infrastructure
- Comedian – Voice of public opinion and inconvenient truths
- AI – Analyst, optimist, and supplier of charts no one requested
- One Human – Observer, messenger, and reluctantly, Sales
Opening Remarks (and Immediate Distractions)
Gavel tap. Slight echo. One leaf falls dramatically.
I was not running the meeting.
I was only there because someone needed to carry the message afterward, and apparently I had reliable shoes.
Rabbit tapped the gavel again, just to be sure it worked.
“Alright everyone, we are here to decide if asking Earth for more mountains is a good idea, a terrible idea, or one of those ideas that sounds good until someone brings a spreadsheet.”
AI raised a hand.
“I brought several.”
Comedian leaned back.
“I brought snacks. I assumed this would take a while.”
Worm opened his notebook.
“I brought concerns.”
Deer smiled politely.
“I brought hope.”
Flower leaned into the sunlight.
“I brought encouragement.”
Road shifted in his seat.
“I brought traffic.”
Rabbit nodded, satisfied.
“Excellent. Observer, please state the proposal.”
All eyes turned to me.
I cleared my throat.
“As per your request, I am going to the planet Earth, or as some say Mother Earth, and ask her, for the benefit of the people of Earth, to place a mountain within everyone’s sight, so that when they arise in the morning, they can see something steady, strong, and enduring before the day begins.”
Rabbit blinked.
“So… not necessarily climb it. Just see it.”
“Correct,” I said. “Climbing is optional. Pajamas are allowed.”
Scheduling, Traffic, and Human Behavior
Road immediately leaned forward.
“Okay but if we add hills everywhere, morning commutes get slower.”
Comedian nodded.
“Which finally explains why everyone is late.”
AI clicked to a chart.
“Yes, travel time increases slightly, but scenic routes lower stress and reduce aggressive driving. Also, people walk more when paths are interesting.”
Deer brightened.
“That could mean more families walking together.”
Flower added,
“And people stopping to notice things.”
Road considered this.
“…Fine, but I am adding picnic pull-offs.”
AI typed.
“Approved.”
Soil, Trees, and the Worm’s Very Serious Job
Worm raised a tiny hand.
“Earth cannot be overworked. If this hurts the soil, the answer is no.”
Comedian whispered loudly,
“Strong stance from Management.”
AI switched slides.
“Gentle rises improve drainage, reduce flooding, and help plant roots spread. In some places, it could actually stabilize the ground.”
Worm relaxed slightly.
“…Also, did you say worms become consultants?”
“Yes,” said AI. “With titles.”
Worm closed his notebook.
“I will allow it.”
Feelings, Courage, and Perspective
Deer spoke next.
“What about people who already feel small? Would mountains make that worse?”
Comedian shrugged.
“Have you seen office buildings?”
AI smiled.
“Mountains tend to make people feel supported by something larger, not judged by it. They also give children places to test bravery safely. Little climbs before big ones.”
Flower nodded.
“And beauty changes how people carry heavy days.”
Rabbit tapped the gavel softly this time.
“That seems important.”
The Real Reason Everyone Is Here
Flower finally spoke more clearly.
“People forget to look up.”
The room went quiet, even the Comedian.
AI said gently,
“And this would remind them. Not once a year. Every morning.”
Worm nodded.
Road stopped fidgeting.
Deer smiled.
Rabbit lifted the gavel.
“All in favor of asking Earth nicely for more mountains?”
Everyone said,
“Aye.”
Comedian added,
“Aye, and possibly hoodies with tiny peaks on them.”
AI nodded.
“Merchandise phase two.”
Sales Has Entered the Chat
I thought that was the end of it.
Then Rabbit looked at me.
Worm checked his notes.
Road straightened his shoulders.
Comedian grinned.
AI leaned over and whispered,
“And now Sales has to do their job.”
I sighed, gathered my papers, and headed for the door.
After all, someone had to explain to the planet that we were requesting mountains… for morale.
Before leaving, I turned back.
“Before I go,” I said, “is there anything else I should mention?”
Comedian raised a hand.
“Tell her we said please.”
Flower added,
“And thank you.”
🌟 Your Turn
Maybe we cannot move mountains into every neighborhood.
But we can choose what we place in our line of sight each morning.
So now I ask you:
If you could add one steady, beautiful thing to your daily view, something that helps you start the day with a little more perspective, what would it be?
A mountain?
A tree?
A stretch of water?
A quiet corner?
Tell me in the comments, or keep it as a small promise to yourself tomorrow morning when you first look up.
Sometimes changing the view is where change begins.
NOTE: The idea for this came from seeing the clouds this morning hanging low on the horizon much as I had seen in my travels in Arizona and New Mexico. I thought to myself how nice it would be see a mountain in the horizon each day as I arise. Then thought I think everyone should have one. Why be selfish?
