It\u2019s not earned\u2014it\u2019s given freely out of love. And it\u2019s the foundation of sainthood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cFor by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.\u201d<\/em><br>\u2014Ephesians 2:8<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udd0d Types of Grace<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To understand how grace leads us toward sainthood, we first need to look at its two main forms:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2728 Actual Grace<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the grace we receive at birth. It\u2019s given to every soul\u2014like a gentle nudge from God, helping us choose good over evil. Think of it as that gnawing feeling inside us, like a whisper from our guardian angel or the voice of conscience when we\u2019re deciding what\u2019s right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cThe grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all.\u201d<\/em><br>\u2014Titus 2:11<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udd25 Sanctifying Grace<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sanctifying grace is the indwelling of God\u2019s life in our soul. It begins at baptism and grows through our openness to the Blessed Trinity. Each time we receive a sacrament\u2014Eucharist, Reconciliation, Confirmation, Marriage\u2014it deepens. It\u2019s the richness of God alive in us, the quiet joy of living a Christian life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cAbide in me, and I in you\u2026 apart from me you can do nothing.\u201d<\/em><br>\u2014John 15:4\u20135<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udd4a\ufe0f Grace Through the Trinity<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019ve heard it said:<br><strong>God is the candle, Jesus is the flame, and the Holy Spirit is the warmth we feel.<\/strong><br>This image helps me understand how grace flows through the Trinity\u2014always active, always present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Actual grace is always at work in our lives. Sanctifying grace, however, grows\u2014or stagnates\u2014depending on how we choose to live. As my priest said, it\u2019s our choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><em>What God commands, He also gives the grace to accomplish.<br>~St. Augustine of Hippo<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2795 Grace + Action = Growth<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I think of it like this:<br><strong>A + B = C<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A = Grace given to us<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>B = Our response and actions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>C = The outcome in our lives<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The more we respond\u2014by going to church, reading Scripture, doing works of mercy, receiving the sacraments\u2014the more grace grows. And as grace grows, we become saintlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cFaith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.\u201d<\/em><br>\u2014James 2:17<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83c\udf31 Grace Feels Different for Everyone<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How grace feels in our lives depends on our openness. It\u2019s a gift, and it manifests differently in each of us. Just look at the saints\u2014no two are alike. Some were scholars, some were mystics, some were mothers, some were martyrs. Grace shaped each one uniquely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udc94 Grace and Sin<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When we sin, we separate ourselves from grace. There are two kinds of sin:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Venial sin<\/strong>: wounds our relationship with God but doesn\u2019t sever it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mortal sin<\/strong>: breaks our communion with God and must be healed through confession.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cIf we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us\u2026 and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.\u201d<\/em><br>\u20141 John 1:9<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once we confess, grace returns. It\u2019s a continuous gift\u2014but it grows through the sacraments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u271d\ufe0f Grace Through the Sacraments<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each sacrament is a channel of grace. It\u2019s not the priest who gives it\u2014it\u2019s Jesus, acting through him by the power of the Holy Spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cUnless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.\u201d<\/em><br>\u2014John 6:53<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God doesn\u2019t want to be separate from us. He loves us. He wants a relationship. And through grace, we develop a deeper, richer union with Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udd6f\ufe0f Closing Reflection<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Grace is always offered. It\u2019s our response that determines how deeply it grows. Through the sacraments, Scripture, and daily surrenders, we become more like the One who gives it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cGrace is everywhere. It is always available.
