Fences come in all shapes and sizes.\u00a0 Their purposes vary accordingly.\u00a0 Sometimes, people use plants as a fence (hedge). Sometimes the fence can be new or in much need of repair.<\/p>\n

Something there is that doesn\u2019t love a wall,\u2029That sends the frozen-ground-swell under it,\u2029And spills the upper boulders in the sun;\u2029And makes gaps even two can pass abreast.\u2029The work of hunters is another thing:\u2029I have come after them and made repair\u2029Where they have left not one stone on a stone,\u2029But they would have the rabbit out of hiding,\u2029To please the yelping dogs.  The gaps I mean,\u2029No one has seen them made or heard them made,\u2029But at spring mending-time we find them there.\u2029I let my neighbor know beyond the hill;\u2029And on a day we meet to walk the line\u2029And set the wall between us once again.\u2029We keep the wall between us as we go.\u2029To each the boulders that have fallen to each.\u2029And some are loaves and some so nearly balls\u2029We have to use a spell to make them balance:\u2029\u2018Stay where you are until our backs are turned!'\u2029We wear our fingers rough with handling them.\u2029Oh, just another kind of outdoor game,\u2029One on a side.  It comes to little more:\u2029There where it is we do not need the wall:\u2029He is all pine and I am apple orchard.\u2029My apple trees will never get across\u2029And eat the cones under his pines, I tell him.\u2029He only says, \u2018Good fences make good neighbors.'\u2029Spring is the mischief in me, and I wonder\u2029If I could put a notion in his head:\u2029'Why<\/em> do they make good neighbors?  Isn\u2019t it\u2029Where there are cows?  But here there are no cows.\u2029Before I built a wall I\u2019d ask to know\u2029What I was walling in or walling out,\u2029And to whom I was like to give offense.\u2029Something there is that doesn\u2019t love a wall,\u2029That wants it down.'  I could say \u2018Elves\u2019 to him,\u2029But it\u2019s not elves exactly, and I\u2019d rather\u2029He said it for himself.  I see him there\u2029Bringing a stone grasped firmly by the top\u2029In each hand, like an old-stone savage armed.\u2029He moves in darkness as it seems to me,\u2029Not of woods only and the shade of trees.\u2029He will not go behind his father\u2019s saying,\u2029And he likes having thought of it so well\u2029He says again, \u2018Good fences make good neighbors.<\/pre>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Some times we see fences in the city and other times in the country.\u00a0 We even have songs about fences.<\/p>\n
