We walk to the tomb to finish the rushed burial process we had started. We talk about Jesus\u2019 life and His teachings and His miracles. He spoke about being fishers of men, and faith the size of mustard seeds could move mountains. We knew what needed to be done. We knew the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When we arrive, we see the stone rolled away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We are confused and shocked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We thought, \u201cWhat has happened? Something is wrong!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We knew we needed to tell the apostles. Simon Peter and another apostle ran to the tomb and confirmed that Our Lord\u2019s Body was gone. John arrives first, stooping to observe, then Simon Peter, who enters first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jesus\u2019 body is gone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There is only a burial cloth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Where have they taken His body?
Where did it go?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With nothing more to do, we return to the upper room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We shuffle our feet as we walk, each in our own thoughts. John\u2019s face has the furrow in his brow from his deep thoughts. He is seeing something that I do not quite understand\u2014the burial cloth, left behind, and nothing disturbed the way theft looks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I am disquieted by my thoughts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The memory of Jesus\u2019 words returns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I think to myself, \u201cDoes this make sense? I cannot ignore His words and all that I have seen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the upper room, the air is stifling with a shared uneasiness as to what this means. Each of us is putting Jesus\u2019 words together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We look at each other with an unsettled bewilderment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We see something in His words and are not quite sure how to express it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is as though His words are being fulfilled before us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Something is beginning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Something we do not yet understand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The room is still.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
No one speaks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And then\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He stands among us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not a sound. Not a warning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Just\u2026 there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We do not move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We do not breathe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His voice is the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not distant. Not changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I look at Him\u2014truly look\u2014and everything I saw\u2026 everything I questioned\u2026 everything I could not understand\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It does not fall apart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It comes together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Cross.
The tomb.
The words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He is alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not taken.
Not lost.
Not remembered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And in His presence, the weight we carried\u2014the confusion, the fear, the grief\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n
it begins to lift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not all at once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Enough to know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
