We often think a great movie or an unforgettable book is what inspires people to travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For me, it has never been either one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has always been curiosity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Curiosity is one of the oldest parts of being human. Long before there were guidebooks, travel agencies, or documentaries, people were already looking beyond the next mountain, across the next river, and over the horizon. They crossed continents, followed ancient trade routes, sailed unfamiliar seas, and walked into lands no one in their family had ever seen before. Some traveled in search of food, some for trade, some because of war, and some simply because they wondered what was there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even Scripture quietly reminds us how connected the world has always been. When Mary anointed Jesus’ feet with costly nard, that perfume had already traveled an extraordinary journey. It came from the Himalayan region, passing through countless hands and ancient trade routes before arriving in Judea. Every time I read that passage, I think about the merchants, travelers, and caravans who carried it across mountains and deserts long before anyone imagined airplanes or cargo ships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perhaps that is why I have always loved to travel. I do not travel simply to say I have been somewhere. I travel because every place has something beautiful to notice and someone interesting to meet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have driven lonely back roads where the fields seemed to stretch forever. I have stood in old churches where generations have whispered prayers. I have watched craftsmen whose hands knew things no machine could imitate. I have shared conversations with people whose lives looked nothing like mine, yet whose hopes and joys felt remarkably familiar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every place leaves a gift behind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sometimes it is a photograph.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sometimes it is a story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sometimes it is a friendship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sometimes it is simply a new way of seeing the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I suppose that is why no movie or book ever inspired me to travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The world itself did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

God’s creation has always been quietly inviting us to look a little farther, ask another question, meet another neighbor, and discover that beauty has never been confined to one place. It has simply been waiting for someone curious enough to notice it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
