As we step gently into the weekend, I wanted to share a little peek into my world because this past week has been something between a baking marathon, a work sprint, and a spiritual balancing act. And yes, God was and must always be at the forefront, guiding me through the chaos of cookies, dogs, schedules, and all the beautiful mess in between.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Let\u2019s begin with the confession:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I worked full-time this week as I always do.
Long days. Real responsibilities. Actual brain power required.
And yet somehow after clocking out instead of resting, I transformed my kitchen into the unofficial Cookie Capital of the South.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Truly, I\u2019m still not sure how I did it.
But let me show you the lineup that magically appeared after each workday:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Irresistible, especially, to Tucker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tucker, our German Shepherd, our furry four-legged shadow, decided that this week was the perfect time to reveal his new hobby: While we were at church…yes, church, he helped himself to an entire dozen chocolate chip cookies cooling on the counter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A whole dozen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We walked in, and he sat there in the corner with the guilty-but-not-guilty expression only dogs can master. The kind that says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI know what I did. I\u2019d do it again. And honestly\u2026 got any more?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n At this point, I think we all know the answer: Which means this weekend, I\u2019ll be adding something new to my baking list:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Doggie cookies.<\/strong> Because if he\u2019s going to be persistent, he might as well have something safe and delicious made especially for him and maybe then he\u2019ll leave my human cookies alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Maybe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Now, as if the cookie extravaganza weren\u2019t enough, I also made Almond Lavender Butter Cookies<\/strong> – delicate, fragrant, almost poetic. Lavender is supposed to help you sleep, which explains why these cookies are perfect for evening tea\u2026 and also explains why I nearly nodded off mid-bite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But here\u2019s the twist: The real surprise is what they\u2019re in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A beautiful treasure from Poland, handcrafted, hand-painted twice, fired twice – the kind of piece you give when you want someone to feel cherished before they even lift the lid. I hope the girls love them as much as I loved the joy of finding them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And then\u2026 Or rather, the fudge that decided it was destined for a different calling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n During one of those \u201cI can totally multitask after a full day of work\u201d moments, I added the chocolate chips at the beginning instead of at the end. I stirred. I waited. I prayed. I wondered why nothing was happening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Lord knows I stood at that stove puzzled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Then the truth dawned: Not fudge. And honestly? Now, in the middle of working all week, baking all evening, wrangling Tucker, and rescuing failed fudge, there is something much more important threading through every moment:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Keeping God at the forefront.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Not as an afterthought. The workday. Because when God is first, everything else finds its place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This is why despite the busy week I\u2019ll be at chapel on Saturday and church Sunday morning. He is there in the stillness of the chapel. And He is always there reminding us: So, as we step into the weekend, here is my hope for you:<\/p>\n\n\n\n That you find a few unexpected surprises. Homemade.
Healthy.
Tucker-approved (hopefully not stolen).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The cookies aren\u2019t the real gift this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The fudge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I had created the world\u2019s richest chocolate syrup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not even close to fudge.
But the most decadent ice-cream topping imaginable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It\u2019s delicious.
It\u2019s heavenly.
It may even become a new tradition.
Because sometimes whether it\u2019s fudge or life, what looks like a mistake is really just God redirecting things toward something sweeter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not as a Sunday-only relationship.
But at the very center of everything:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The baking.
The cleaning.
The cookie disasters.
The quiet moments.
The laughter.
The planning.
The imperfect, messy, beautiful days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Those moments reset my spirit.
They quiet the noise.
They remind me that all the small acts of love we scatter around cookies, gifts, kindness, laughter are part of something much bigger that He is shaping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He is there in the warmth of the kitchen.
He is there in the joy of giving.
He is there when a dog steals cookies and you have to laugh instead of cry.
He is there when fudge melts and life doesn\u2019t go the way you planned.
He is there when the week feels full and your heart feels fuller.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou are held. You are guided. You are loved.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That you laugh at something silly \u2014 even if it\u2019s just a dog with crumbs on his nose.
That you taste something sweet.
